[access-uk] K-NFB Reader

Mandy I'm not away yet (smile).

I'll send you my review off list. Yes, you could try scanning something from
the freezer. I had a laugh in Tesco when I first got it, doing an otherwise
laborious shop trying to get readings from shelves and freezer doors etc. I
also took it to our local Italian restaurant, and that proved very successful
with being able to read the menu for a change, even though I couldn't
understand what some of the dishes were.

Basically you need to get to grips with it which, to start with, takes a bit of
patience as there is a knack to where you shoot and how high up you hold the
unit before doing so. Once you grasp the concept, it's a whole lot of fun.

If anyone wants the review I did, which is quite comprehensive and I hope fair,
please let me know.

I said I'd unsub from the list, mainly because I had a really bad weekend and
thought I'd have to. But I'm still here, for a week or so yet anyway. And
you're all keeping me going, so thanks for that if nothing else.

Jackie

Anybody have some up-to-date info on this reader? I downloaded the PDF but
didn't find out very much. How much does it cost and how good is it really?
When spending money you really need some user feedback don't you? I gather
Jacky is in hospital so obviously can't ask her to send me her review of the
product off-list.

Could we take something from the freezer and find out what it is, for
example, or would the fact that it has ice on it damage the camera?
  Mandy.

Ari, do you mean the K-NFB Reader? It is sold in the UK by Sight and Sound
Technology. Personally I get on well with mine. When I get my mail and I
can't be bothered to turn the PC on to scan it, I just pick up the Reader
and scan it that way. I like it because of its utter portability. When I
can't move in bed with my back problems, I use the Reader a lot, and as I
said before, love a newspaper to get stuck in about. It takes me quite a
long time to scan one mind because they are quite large. So I settle
myself
at my table and spread it out like a sighted person does. Then I scan the
top half and then work my way down it. There is a knack of doing that, but
it is doable. It reads certain newspapers better than others, due to their
typefaces and print etc, but it can be done, even if it takes a while to
    achieve it.

One thing it reads very well are the names and details on medicine packets.
I have found it so useful for those situations when tablet packaging feels
similar to others, and the Reader has really got me out of a potential
difficulty if my son hasn't been in to help me.

I've written a comprehensive review of this gadget if you want me to send
it
    to you off list.
