Hi Amro,

Just bring up the links list, move to, or focus the link, and press
shift-enter. That will open it in a new window. No need for a screen
reader to do it.

All the best

Steve

Subject: [access-uk] Jaws suggestions and possibly other screen readers too

Hello members,

I posted this on the Jaws UK list but thought I'd bring it up here as well
to engage Jaws and other screen readers users in the discussion.

I've been reading and listening to the what's new in Jaws 10 WebPages and
podcast and I have two suggestions. I would like to hear people's opinions
of them.

A. This is maybe relevant only to Jaws. Re the auto forms mode in V10.
Wouldn't it be a good idea to make the Escape key the default keystroke to
turn forms mode off regardless whether one is using the new auto forms
feature or the old way of navigating forms mode?

B. This one can be relevant to any screen reader I think. How about
adding the following two buttons to the links list (Jaws key + F7): Open
link in a new window, and Open link in a new tap? Currently I have to open
the Jaws links dialog, choose the desired link, tap to move to link and
press it, then right click to choose open in a new tap/window. Note that if
I just press Application when landing on a link while arrowing up and down,
I find most of the time that the Jaws focus is not on that link. That why I
have to go through that lengthy procedure of bringing up the links list
dialog and moving to the link...

If you're a user of a screen reader other than Jaws and you like the second
suggestion, be quick before FS patent it! *smile*

So what do you think?

Cheers,

Amro
