Hi Jackie,

Window-Eyes 8 is out now and it still reads the columns. Sorry, couldn't
resist. <Smile>.

All the best

Steve

Hi Vanja

I can't help regarding your own problems, but it is a bit off to have to
download the whole thing and remove the copy you had updated. After all,
what is the bloody update menu there for if it doesn't always work?

But I have found a really annoying bug in the latest build. I was using the
Envelopes and Labels feature to produce labels for my Christmas cards in
Word 2003 on Thursday. I use the code L7161, and this always works really
well for me in producing what I need. I did the bulk of them, intending to
finish the job on Friday. But the new JAWS build arrived on Friday morning,
so I updated this before going back into Microsoft Word to complete my
labels. To my utter horror, I discovered that JAWS no longer speaks the
amount of columns and rows you want for your labels. It just sat at column
one, row one, and wouldn't move. I checked I had everything set correctly
and, of course, I did. I had to go back to JAWS 13 to complete the job
which worked successfully.

I know it is difficult to check every single feature of every available
program to ensure that JAWS works with it, but when you buy SMAs, you expect
to be able to use the latest version, otherwise what is the point in
throwing your money away on it? Sorry, but I feel very strongly about it.
I don't expect something for nothing, I am more than happy to pay for
something that works properly, but either the testing of JAWS isn't done
thoroughly enough, or it's a case of roll it out regardless.

I hope you get everything sorted.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Just a quick update on the jaws issue that I have been reporting recently. I
have called s&s. In short one of the tec support guys remotely logged on to
my computer. Once he had a look he said that there are some files missing
and that this sometimes happens during the download process if one updates
through the automatic updates. He said to doremove jaws 14 and all the
shared user settings and then do the fresh install of jaws 14. I have done
this, but as soon as I've installed jaws 14 jaws still behaved in the same
way. In fact using the 'startup wizzard' became impossible,k also any of the
jaws menues were inaccessible as well as previous problems of system tray,
listing links on webpages ETC still obviously being impossible to use.

Since I obviously can't role back and use the jaws 14 version before 6th
December update, I've downloaded jaws 13, which even with my old settings
works perfectly fine, so I have no idea what's causing this issue. I know
that removing jaws 14 including the user/shared settings didn't help. I was
a bit busy with other various things after my phonecall to s&s so I have
only done this way after their opening hours, so I couldn't call them back
to talk about this, I intend to do this on Monday unless another solution
becomes available.
