Alfred,If you have a Java item in your control panel, then you have the Java run-time engine installed.
If you then get silence when you select Java from the control panel, that's because the Java control program which is launched is itself written in Java, and unless you have the JAB installed, it won't be accessible.

I don't know John because when I go to Control Panel and to Java, it does not show up.
