Hi, it does slightly more than that. It can be used to turn the
righthand side keys into arrow keys as well as numbers, thus giving
you many of the functions you would find on the standard numeric
keypad. Thus, with laptop layout in use, for instance, caps lock plus
I reads the current line.

hi there, the fn or so-called function key is used to simulate a num
pad on a laptop. i personally find it impractical, seen as there is a
number row on the laptop anyway. also, the fn key can be used for
other things, like screen brightness but this will depend on the type
of laptop.

What exactly is this key used for?
