Certainly thank you. If anyone on the list can suggest an effective means by which I might obtain a list of what is running on each of my computers perhaps you would be kind enough to tell me of this, otherwise I will of course go through the labourious work of doing this manually.

Ok, send us a list, let's see if there is anything that is obviously causing a conflict.

I am quite happy to send a list of everything running on my computer to know
if it conflicts with Jaws and Magic. I have the same programmes on my
netbook as on the computer james reinstalled to. I have no reason to
believe that my computer is not properly set up as it was set up for me at
the time of purchase.

Eleanor, the common factor in all this is your computers. I think you
needs to make sure they are properly set up and not running conflicting
programmes or set up's, then your software should load up ok.

Glenn

Hello Eleanor,

When I tried to install JAWS 10 I got the same kind of problem. It simply
would not install and messed up my settings and old screenreader to some
extent. I was unable to get to the bottom of the reason for this. All
other versions of JAWS up to that one and since installed OK, as does
most
other software with the exception of Windows XP Sp3.

BFN,
John.

I did indeed have Sight and Sound spend many many hours on my computer to
get Windows XP and all my programmes and files restored. It was as the
Director of the company would say, beyond their obligations. However, I
still have a netbook with the same problem!!! I cannot install Jaws 10
to
it. It would most likely require a total reinstallation of OS and all my
programmes etc on the netbook too but this is crazy. Odd though how I
had
the problem with two systems.

Hi Eleanor,

I do not use JAWS but am speaking from a general technical support
perspective.

Did Sight and Sound give you an idea as to what was wrong with your
computer that could be hampering the JAWS installation? Although
strictly
general technical support for computers is probably beyond the remit of
S&S, I would have thought a company which deals with computer products
and
particularly with people with disabilities on a daily basis, and by the
very nature of computer products often having inter-dependencies, that
they could have at least pointed you somewhat in the right direction.

It could be one of many things:
* A conflicting program such as another screen reader or access
technology
* A required Windows or platform update that is missing or an incorrect
version
* A computer setting that is preventing the installation or one or its
routines from completing
* Access controls

This isn't a criticism of S&S by any means, but it does make it very
hard
to diagnose the problem (and more so as I don't have JAWS and know
little
of its quirks) without a rough idea of what could be wrong to begin
with.
S&S undoubtedly sell many products to many people, and equally so must
have had many support requests over the years, so perhaps someone there
has come across this before and could advise from direct experience?

H.

I have been told by Sight and Sound that the problem with my
installation
of Jaws 10 is related to my computers having problems rther than with
Jaws
10. It is fair to say that Sight and Sound did get Jaws 10 working on
one
of my computers but I have a netbook and I cannot install it on that
either!!! I did not purchase my computers from the same place nor did
I
purchase them at the same time. This leaves me very puzzled that I
have
two computers supposedly 'faulty' and not Jaws 10. My software was
purchased back in September and I still cannot install this product on
my
NC10!!!! I do have Jaws 9.0 on the Netbook and had no problem
installing
it. Very strange. I do have a dongle and I think it is possible to
run
Jaws 10 from the dongle though I do not see why I should have to do
this
if my choice is to have the prodjuct installed. Anyone else
experienced
problems like this?

Eleanor
