Hi Peter,

The principal I believe, is similar to Microsoft's
activation process.  A unique machine code is generated,
which is what establishes how many systems you try to
install to.  (I believe 3 is the current limit)

Consequently, unlike the "token"/floppy system, if you
reformat a drive without removing the token first, you
shouldn't loose anything.
