Thanks, Ibrahim. I'll probably have my own by the time we need to use it, but useful to know.

Hi Carol.

Yes, if you and mike are travelling together, then you
can use his card to purchase additional discounted
tickets for your journey. The idea is that one person is
the disabled holder of the card and the other can be a
carer, guardian or other such adult, or simply another
blind user. The only thing you can't do if mike only has
a card is to travel alone, for this you'll need to use
your own card, so I'd insist on having one if you feel
you'll need to travel alone at least two or three
journeys per year.
All the best, Ibrahim.

Coming in on this thread ...

I went to renew ours yesterday, after a reasonably long
lapse, only to find that they still had Mike's details
on file but not mine, so I have to start from the
beginning again and fill out a form and get proof I'm
really blind! <Ugh!>
In addition, they told me that we could both travel on
his card. I point out I wasn't (really) his carer,
since we were both disabled, but the lady insisted we
could both travel on the one card.
Has anyone renewed theirs lately and got the written
paperwork which confirms or denies this, please? I
don't want to do anything I shouldn't but am wondering
now if I really need to apply for mine since we don't
travel on the train often and I have no plans to go on a
train, other than holiday with Mike.

Dave says

"disabled railcard, and was told that the
card only entitled me to some discount."

Correct yes

"When in fact, it entitles me to a third off the price
of both myself, and my carer."

Actually it depends on ticket type.
