Oh this was some years ago I think. It disabled core components if I
remember rightly. Now it doesn't disable anything.

Hmm, very strange. did it say what kind of object the kurzweil files were?
what functionality did you find lacking once it had run? I must try it on a
test machine sometime and see if it still disables it.

cheers,

Mo.

Hi.

I didn't find it very accessible, avira anti virus or microsoft
security essentials are the 2 i usually recommend in conjunction with
malware bytes 1.75. the problem with avast is that initially they did
take accessibility seriously. once they had feedback and
recommendations from the VI community and freedomscientific, they let
accessibility slide, not to mention the fact that their scanning
engine has in the past disabled jaws on my system because its
apparently suspicious software. I hate anti virus engines that are
over aggressive and don't give you the option in an accessible
dialogue of allowing apps through. its an irony really, if they were
taking accessibility seriously and conducting testing with jaws
internally, their software should've known better than to disable jaws...

all the best,

Mo.

Dear listers,

I currently have AVG installed on my computer but am seriously
thinking of changing given their policy of selling their client info
to advertisers and that recent tests indicate it is less effective
than Microsoft Security Essentials (not a good recommendation.

Avast has been suggested as a free alternative and I would be
grateful to know if anyone uses it successfully - I'm not expecting
it to be fully accessible, just hoping that it's not fully inaccessible.

Best wishes

Robert
