Not sure what you mean by "recording system" - if you mean "reporting system", it was just a backup idea so anyone phoning the "help I'm stuck" number which IS in Braille, would be easily able to tell which unit it was. I also believed that most people with a visual impairment had developed it later in life, so would know that a zero is a circular shape, and a 1 is a vertical bar. Therefore, if I said "there is a tag with 4 raised non-braille representatives of the numbers 0 and 1 on the back", I thought that might help. If you are saying that these shapes would require "learning an entire new system", then that's a different matter.
