Hi Peter

Sorry if I didn't make my message clearer earlier, but I do have one. I've
had it for over four years. It's just that the rechargeable battery appears
to be giving up the ghost, so I'm looking to replace it. I bought it from
Hagger UK as I said, and it's been a brilliant piece of kit for music. I
have just never used the external battery pack that's in its box. Well, I'm
about to find out! (smile). I've also sourced a battery via Amazon for
£12.95, but getting it fitted could be the tricky bit.

Thanks again.

Hi Jackie,
I use 4 normal batteries and get tons of hours with them when I a mon long
flights and want to save my battery.
Guess it would be about 20 hours.
Also the Iriver will play WMA and Flac audio high quality files, is great
for storing photos and any other backup files. I believe it will also take
an installation of Window Eyes so you can use Window Eyes anywhere.
Don't forget that the Iriver has a great radio player and just about the
finest quality recording functionality also! You just can't beat its
pick-up.

You'd be lucky to get one though... They are so good folks just won't sell
them.

Hi Eleanor

It is an MP3 player which comes in 20 or 40GB hard drive flavours. With the
open source program, Rockbox, you cam turn it into an accessible portable
jukebox because it speaks the menus, and allows you to hook it up to your
PC, where you can copy and paste in Windows Explorer. They are very hard to
source now though, and probably can only be purchased second-hand. I love
mine because I can store thousands of music tracks on it and just copy and
paste into folders I have created.

Having just looked at the contents of its box, which has all sorts of bits
and pieces in there, I have discovered a battery pack that looks as if it
plugs into the charger outlet. What I'm not sure about though is whether it
needs to have rechargeable or ordinary batteries put in there, so hope
someone can confirm this if they have an Iriver, and give me an estimation
of how long a set of batteries would last for average use. Personally, I
still think it's hard to beat as a mass storage music device.

Thanks much.

Hi Peter

I have the entire box for it with all the kit. I bought it from Hagger UK
in February 2006, and I've looked after it and love transferring all my
music onto it. I've never used the battery pack before which must be some
sort of contraption in its box I've never paid attention to, (smile). I
haven't even updated Rockbox on it since I bought it as it works, and I
simply run a small program called VoiceIt which names my tracks and adds a
small file beside the original. Perhaps it's a quirky method by today's
standards, but I'm very attached to my little brick (grins).

Thanks for your help.

Hi Jackie,
It can be done. I had Lynx computing, a company which once operated under
Argyll Street bridge, replace my e-bay aquired battery. It took him half an
hour. He was sweating blood by the time he finished. But he would not charge
me for doing this as he enjoyed the challenge. I lost nothing in the way of
data or files. Lynx computing had closed its doors last time I past by. But
it can be done though and I still have my iRiver now three years later.
Even if your battery goes you can still use it. I'd load it full of music
now while you can. Also try to aquire a battery pack.

Peter

All, I would greatly appreciate suggestions here.

My Iriver H340, which I have had for over four years, appears to be losing
its battery charge. I appreciate this unit is no longer around, but wonder
if anyone has attempted to purchase a new battery, and replace it
themselves? My understanding is that a board has to be removed in order to
do this, so not a job for me that's for sure! (smile). And, if anyone has
done this, do you lose all the Rockbox and other settings by removing this
board and battery?

Thanks in anticipation of your help. While I have and love my Ipod, I still
also love my Iriver because of the music capacity it holds.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns
