Hi Andy.

I own five Zenstone mp3 players. I've distributed them amongst friends in my community, mostly elderly, and furnish them with books, movies and music, and everyone finks them fantastic.

I'm actually listening to a book at this moment, which I started last night. Occasionally, I have to turn the device off, to attend to other things, but when I return, often after a couple of ours, the book or movie is opened at the space in which I closed it.

There are a couple of Zenstone players. I have four 1 gb players and one 2 gb player, which happens to have two little round speakers on it. This cost about £39 and the 1 GB cost about £29, but all are fabulous machines. I can send you one to try out for a week or so if you are afraid to make a purchase, so Andy just let me know and I'd be pleased to let you have a go with one. I'd recommend the Zenstone as it's so simple and of course all you need to do to charge it up is plug it into your computer. A few weeks ago Steve advised me that his personal MP3 player had 30 gb of memory and although I felt a little jealous, I realized that his device was probably much more bulky and required batteries, whereas the Zenstone is as small as a slice of chocolate.

you can even pick them up second hand on the Re-Cycle list, as I've done in the past, for about £15.00, so I'd really recommend you look at this player and give it a go. I'm sure you will not be disappointed.

Very best wishes.

Andy.

Hi Steve - so then, is it only the Ipods with Itunes that retains the place
in mp3 files? Are there really no small alternatives? -

Andy

| Hi Andy,
|
| No, they won't retain their place as far as I know.

|| Hi Andy,
||
|| The Zenstone doesn't have a screen, but the Zen does.
||
|| They don't remember your place in a track, but they do in an audio book
| from
|| Audible.
||
|| Yes, standard Mini USB to USB lead will do it, and you can just copy and
|| paste. That's just one thing I hate about Ipods, proprietory databases
to
|| import your files to, rather than just playing what's there.
||
|| All the best

|| Hi Steve - Sounds like the Zenstone is more the thing then; 2 questions
|| about them if I may: Do they have a screen for a sighted user? and will
| they
||
|| remember the position in an a book or music track? Oh, can't count can I, || here's a third question! Can they just be hooked up via USB cable to a PC
|| for file transfer? -

||
||| Hi Andy,
|||
||| I would not recommend Ipods personally, since everything relies on
| Itunes.
||| You can't even copy MP3 files straight to the device without Itunes. I ||| would recommend something like the Creative Zen 16 or 32GB. Or even the ||| Zenstone if you want smaller. These players are very simple in that you
|| can
||| just copy and paste files to them, and they will show up. I don't see
| the
||| attraction in Ipods at all, when there are much nicer devices.
|||
||| All the best

|||
||| Hi all -
|||
||| I'm buying a gift for somebody sighted, and need some advice. I'm
looking
||| for an easy to use MP3 player, it doesn't need huge capacity as it is
|| mainly
|||
||| for listening to books, and there fore must be able to retain it's place ||| when turned off; it must also have USB connectivity for loading books on
|| to
||| it from a PC. Portability is important, so something like an Ipod. Any
||| suggestion please? -
|||
