Martin, I understand your caution, I'm a bit like that with these big updates
myself. But it was ok on both our xP machines yesterday, so fingers crossed
for you and anyone else doing it when the time comes. Some people could think
big deal, and it sure as hell is if it goes pear-shaped as these things can at
times. (smile.)

  Hi Martin

You would know if SP3 wanted to install. You get a licence agreement to
accept, so you haven't got it yet mate.

I just left it until the System Tray showed it ready to install, then went
for it. After it had done so, I went to Windows Update and made sure it was
showing no further updates to install.

I haven't seen the SP1 for Vista come up yet in this way, so am waiting until
it does. I too have my updates set to automatically come up and install, but
the SP ones are definitely bigger and want the licence acceptance.

    HI Jackie:

could you shed some light on this one:

I go to windows update, or microsoft update and there's a load of clicking
and then eight links appear on the page with no update button or error code to
say update or, hey there's a problem!

now I updated my laptop for the first time in i don't know how long
yesterday, and got sp3 for xp fine enough. the desktop doesn't want to find
sp3, as I have the deskptop on rolling updates as and when they arrive, could I
already have xpsp3 without knowing it? or is there something wrong here.

Iain, I can't help you regarding the file error, sorry, but just for anyone
thinking of going for SP3 on XP Home, ours came up in Windows Update yesterday,
so we went for it, and all seems to be ok. Still haven't seen the new SP1 for
Vista yet, so I'm waiting until it instructs me to install it.

      Hi
I am trying to install SP3 but am getting a copy error on a file called
signup.mar. What is this and is there any way I can either get rid of the error
or bypass copying the file?

      Iain
