Hi Adrian, Since you live in rural France, you will need a USB dial up modem suitable for the French telephone system. I did a search at http://ww.google.fr for the following, and surprisingly it came up with quite a bit of English stuff: usb dial up modem You could also try the following two searches for more. modem pour accès commuté modem classique Essentially setting up a dial-up modem is not rocket science, but you will need to obtain information from your ISP as to what number to dial, plus set-up details, passwords, etc.. Indeed your French ISP may indeed be able to suggest a locally available modem which they are familiar with. Going by British prices, they are almost giving dial up modems away, so hopefully they won't be much different over there. The only problem for me is that I live in an area where there is no broadband at all, although they hope to give it to us in the near future. I thought about getting a usb modem or something similar but I don't understand or even know what I am looking for. The netbooks are designed for broadband but I'm sure a usb modem would work ok. All I need is something to connect it to the phone line or the modem, what would you recommend please? Can you guys advise me.
