Barry As I said in my first post on this subject, the retail of many access technology products is set by the manufacturer and whatever the margin between what that manufacturer sells it to their primary dealers and the retail price is either kept by the dealer as their margin or is shared in some way or other between the dealer and the resellers. I can't say if the practice of a seller trying to judge what the buyer is prepared to pay goes on, it may it may not, but when the price that something is sold for to the end user is laid down by the manufacturer this kind of behaviour would certainly be virtually impossible and if it did happen the manufacturer would probably have something to say to the seller about it. so the price we pay for our scanning, screen reader or magnification software, is set by Kurzweil, GW Micro, Freedom Scientific, Dolphin, AI Squared etc. the seller has no say, they must sell it at that price or not at all. Again! How does a retailer come up with a price? I presume that some look at the competition, the demand, the market, and ask 'How much is the punter willing to pay?'. Then again, others may look at the variables and the RRP and try to calculate the minimum margin they can afford to work within, possibly even offering a price lower than the RRP. In the business of access equipment, I would hope that it were the second but, cynically, I think that too many places go by the first. Hi Barry So the manufacturer sets the RRP and the rest are obliged to work within that limit? No, the rest can charge whatever. The RRM is only a guide. Thus the word "recommended" Almost everything we buy in the shops will have a RRP and look how much prices can vary from shop to shop, for exactly same product! Look at say price of a pint of beer, Why does it cost more in London than say Manchester! Regards, Derek e-mail: derek.hornby_uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ** Going on holiday and want to halt messages?
