Hi,

Addware/spyware are the terms used to talk about programs which get installed
which provide adverts or feedback to the authors (the spy bit) about their
usage. Addaware is the program used to detect such nasties.

Thanks.
Andrew.

Hey guys,

I'm really kinda confused you see. Barry says "Ad-aware is a
programme that stops spyware from infecting your computer," and Tink says "Add
ware is the term used to describe unwanted programs that can be

secretly installed on your computer." Which is which?

I'll also want to be sure of the correct spelling. Is it addware,"
"adware" or "addaware?"

            Thanks all the same.

Sam.

Add ware programs will cause multiple browser windows to open up, each
time you go browsing the Internet. Each of these popup windows will contain
advertising of one description or another, hence the name "add ware".

In the example Barry gave, he discovered that by clicking on a link in
an email that appeared to remove you from the mailing list, you would
unwittingly be installing an add ware program on your computer.

It's always good to run regular checks with a package that will detect
any unwanted programs of this kind. Others will be able to suggest good
packages, but SpyBot will get you going.

HTH,
Tink.
