Brian I sympathise although I generally accept IOS and iPhone 4 are probably
not the right combination I too updated more or less as an experiment to find
you cannot go back. This latter bit is really annoying and I don't know if
this is technical reason or just Apple doing its usual thing here.

For the battery sucking effect I can only suggest turning off the automatic app
update thingy, not sure where exactly that it in the settings.

I think there is a bug in the contrast option in accessibility because it
really doesn't do anything. It seems that when software developers such as
Microsoft and Apple fail on the transparency experiments (Windows VISTA and 7)
they go to loads of white as the next big thing (Windows 8, particularly in the
Modern apps).

The icons in the IOS stock apps that were once buttons are very slight to the
point of being unclear. The input keyboard is a bit of a nightmare too. I
Jonny Ive has started believing his own press and sacrificed overall clarity
for some kind of fresh house style. It looks a bit better on the iPad at least.

Let us hope they can tone down some of it and put a bit of body back into the
look of the thing. I can manage with it but it no longer is quite a joy to use.

Regards.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks, I have tried the various options in accessibility including bold,
font size etc. but they didn't really help.

Brian.
