Barry,

I took your advice regarding my download problems. I tried entering ALT N but nothing happened. I tried ALT S and this gave me a short menu but I do not know what option to take in this menu. I tried to listen to something on BBC Iplayer but was told I needed Flash player 10 or later. I have been trying all day to download the flash player but all I get this that annoying noise which tells me it won't let me download something. I wonder if you have any more advice. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barry Toner" <barry@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Hi David,

Internet Explorer 8 and 9 have a notification bar. This bar pops up when either,

A. A Popup is blocked.

B. A download request is made.

C. A plug in wants to install itself onto your computer.

The last one might explain why you're not hearing audio. the plug in that's needed to play the file is asking to be installed and you're not seeing it, as well as the other alerts.

When the notification bar has an alert there's normally a noise that's played. like a chime or some such. Pressing and holding ALT, and tapping the letter N will jump focus into this area. You can then use your arrow keys and return key to navigate/select.

A handy shortcut if you want to save a file is to hit alt, s when the alert sound is played. Without having to jump into the download alert, in the notification bar.

Regards,
Barry.

Hello,

I am hoping that some one on the list can help me with a download issue I have with Internet Explorer 8. I have an old Windows XP machine and I have recently installed Internet Explorer 8 but there is something within IE8 that is preventing me from downloading software and sound files. I have been trying to get BBC Player to play some files today but something is preventing the files from downloading. A couple of weeks ago I tried to download the Sygate software but something prevented the files being downloaded. I think it must be something to do with the IE8 security settings or something in Security Centre. I would appreciate any help.
