Yes, that's a good idea, though I haven't done it so far.  If you don't, you 
sometimes get in it by mistake and slow everything down to a crawl while the 
messages are selected and shown.

  Hi eleanor. The all mail folder displays every single email that is on your 
account. Its gmails way of grouping everything together as a backup until you 
empty your trash folder. It combines all your folders in 1 view. I would 
unsubscribe from the all mail folder if you are subscribed to it. Whenever i 
set gmail up for people i unsubscribe from that folder as there is no point 
showing it. Look for an option called imap folders and untick all mail.

Messages and in it, I am duly informed that I have over a thousand mails.  Yet 
we are talking about Gmail deleting mails after 30 days!!!  I don't know what 
it is doing with mine then.
