Hi Richard, yes, you can back up to wherever you like, but you'll need sighted 
assistance to restore.
  When you use dvd's you just boot with them, but if you save the image to 
another drive you'd need to make an image for dos recovery cd, and boot with 
that. You'd then need to tell it where the image is, and where you want to put 
it.
