Hi Kevin, I’ve been using the iOS app to control my heating for a number of
months now. You don’t need to login each time you launch the app (at least I
can’t remember the last time I had to login). The app itself is pretty
accessible using a combination of swipes and placing a finger on the screen and
moving around. I’m able to turn the heating on/off, adjust the temperature at
which the heating turns off and set up routines (not something I do very often
as I’m happy to just turn it on when I want it). When I initially set it up I
set the app to switch to frost protect mode when off was selected so
technically it is then set to 7 degrees and will turn the boiler on if the
thermostat goes beneath this. I’m also able to control my lights through the
app although tend to do this through my Echo normally. Can’t really comment on
the distance of the thermostat to the Hive controller near the boiler as I live
in a flat so it isn’t all that far.
My boiler doesn’t allow for Hive to control the hot water. It is a combination
boiler and I seem to remember that most of those don’t allow any of the smart
thermostats to control both heating and hot water.

Subject: [access-uk] Hive IOS app and Hive in general
Hi all.
How is the accessibility of the Hive IOS app at present? I saw some discussion
a while back on this but couldn’t recall what the details were.
I also saw a criticism that you had to login every time you launched the app
before you could do anything, is that still the case?
Any other observations on using Hive to control heating and hot water?
Any issues with the range of the wifi transmission from the hub to thermometers
or to the boiler? Our boiler is quite a distance from the router so wondered
if anyone had experienced any issues with the hub and boiler controls where
they are quite far apart?
Thanks.
Kevin
