Hi Peter,
It took me some time to find the option you're after, (and even when I did,
it didn't cure the problem, however, I'll try and see if I can point you in
the correct direction.
What you want to do is press the following key sequence :
Hold down the alt key and press h
Then press a
Then press O
Then press C
Finally press right arrow once and you should be in a list of encodings.
