Hi Catherine and everyone,

I have to confess that I never print envelopes!

What I do is to always use window envelopes and almost always these are C6 size. Because the window is in a standard place on various sizes of envelopes, it's always possible to get the address on a sheet of paper inside the envelope to appear in the window. For the ones I buy from Viking Direct, the recipient's address needs to be two inches down from the top of the page and one inch in from the left margin; then it will always show in the window, whether the page is folded in three, in two or just flat, depending on the size of envelope. This also has the very great advantage that it is not possible to put the wrong document in the wrong envelope.

I've been using this way of doing things for more than fifteen years and it's never let me down yet. I use it for Word and WordPerfect documents, as well as for invoices and other documents printed direct from my old DOS database.

You do, of course, have to fold the paper the right way when it comes out of your printer, but that's an automatic process once you've done a few. The only word of warning I would add is that if you are printing a large number of letters to go in several envelopes and your printer doesn't tell you that it has run out of ink, you can end up with blank pages. I know someone who did this once and almost sent out a mailshot of blank pages - though it was an old printer.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Brendan.
