Hi Kevin

Go to Start/Run and type in msconfig then Enter. On the box that comes up tab to Startup and this will list all running application. Remove the tick from the Norton entries and Apply but do not re-boot your system. Then to Start/Control Panel/Add & Remove Programs. Uninstall the Norton entries. Re-boot your machine and all should be well. Install what replacement you have for the Norton system.

Norton used to be very difficult to remove and it needed a removal tool from the Norton website. I don't know if that is still applicable but if so a visit to the home page and a trawl through the download section solves that. A Google will find the home page.
