Hi George,

Dunno. All I can say is that I update all my drivers all the time with very
few problems, unless the driver itself is causing problems. I have had this
occasionally, particularly with an updated IDE driver. The system wouldn't
boot after it, and I had to get back to last known good configuration. That
is real fun without sight, but possible <Smile>.

All the best

Steve

Perhaps 90% of the time, Steve, but McGillicuddy is a real bar steward for
the other 10%.

Hi George,

This is incorrect. With both Window-Eyes and JAWS, you can easily do it.
What happens is that on the reboot when the video drivers have been updated,
both of them will ask you to reboot while they update the video intercepts.
You are behind the times <Smile>. In fact, I even tried it with Hal and it
works.

All the best

Steve

Hi Andy,

You don't need to uninstall the old ATI drivers, but I'd be a shade wary
about installing new video drivers without sighted help to hand. It will
most likely break the video chain to your screen reader, leaving you without
speech, and the necessity to re-install your screen reader.

George.

Hi all -

I'm pasting my message from yesterday here again, as it got no responce, and
I'm sure there are people on this list that can help, so please do if you
can, it's always apreciated.

Start of message:

Hi all -

Ok, a scan of my PC tells me that certain drivers need updating, and I'm
trying to understand quite what to do, and what I need to download!

When I click on the link from driveragent.com to update the driver, the page
that comes up says:

"The following packages will provide display drivers and capture drivers
that can be used with various video capture programs."

And then it lists what is in the package, the first thing being the display
driver, is this all I'll need, or will I need the rest of the package that
includes things like 'catalyst control centre' or the 'WDM Integrated
Driver.'

Can I ask too, if I need to uninstall from 'add/remove'
within the control
panel, the existing ati drivers that these updates are to replace?

Thanks as ever -

Andy
