Hi I believe that the iPlayer desktop version is currently not accessible so it's not possible to download programmes if you are a screenreader user. I'm aware that requests for access are going into the next workflow. Do feedback though. There is now a dedicated email address. The more people who write, the more people will take notice. If you don't write, then the techies and managers don't realise the negative impact on the community or indeed that any blind people are really trying to use the service so will give it a low priority as there is a lot of work to do just to keep it on air. Do try to point out what you love from iPlayer and what you get out of it as well. Be constructive and positive. Offer to help test if you have that kind of time free. accessibilityteam@xxxxxxxxx is the address. Save it. Share it. Please note this isn't an official BBC communication, it's just me, and I work in another department. Hope helpful in some way though. ...Damon -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Peter Beasley Sent: 20 January 2012 09:58 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Help with BBC i-player please You cannot download programmes using the Iplayer. If it is radio you are talking about, what you want is a program called radio downloader. ----- Original Message ----- From: Donna Slater <mailto:donnaslater356@xxxxxxxxx> To: access <mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, January 20, 2012 3:34 AM Subject: [access-uk] Help with BBC i-player please Hi Does anyone on the list use BBC i-player by downloading programs rather than streaming them? My internet speeds are so slow that I need to be able to download rather than stream. Unfortunately, the Iplayer desktop manager seems to be totally inaccessible as far as I can make out. I have tried with both System Access and NVDA but can't find any way of accessing the player. So, my question is, how do people use iplayer to download and play programs please? I am really disappointed in this as I always understood that the BBC endeavoured to make their site accessible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
