Hi,

In addition to Mike's advice, also check to make sure that the audio
settings don't have a setting to keep sound coming out of the speakers even
when headphones are plugged in.  Many sound cards now offer this feature,
it's like a sort of DJ mode.  I think the rationale is that if you were
listening to audio with an audience, it's sometimes better for the person
controlling the audio to listen to it through headphones but you also want
the audience to hear the sound as well.

Just a thought.  Although try the headphone jack cleaning first as this may
well solve the problem in a flash.
