Just to put my penneth in, surely, you can just press the blue button when it 
asked you if you want the box to speak.

That's all I have ever done when i had to do a reset.

Hi.

Not sure why your series recording's not working any more. is your disk very 
full of programs? it may be worth getting someone sighted to check the library 
to ssee how many hours are remaining. As for resetting, if you just reset to 
factory defaults then yes that'll disable speech. you'll have to reenable it 
via the accessibility option in the menu.
