Thank you to everyone who has tried to help me. In the end I asked Siri! She
sent me to a website that told me to switch off my iPhone and restart it with
the headphones plugged in. Sure enough I then had to increase the volume on the
headphones. But the really odd thing is that when I changed my headphones they
still worked with the iPhone really Odd  But the problem is solved and I will
know what to do next time.
