Being in the middle of development of software for Mac we've stumbled on an
issue which could well be at the root of some of this confusion.
When Apple brought out Yosemite, they may some changes to the accessibility
module.
This was first spotted when I realised that many keyboard shortcuts in menus
were not working as displayed visually to me. For example, I would see lower
case fn, which is one of Apple's keys. However, VoiceOver would speak
"command".
I referred this to two of the developers, one sighted, the other blind. Both
concluded there must be a problem with my MacBook which I only purchased last
September.
It was only by chance that the blind developer's wife had to use Yosemite for
an exam, and when he set this up for her, he tried my test, BUT... his sighted
wife confirmed what I was seeing.
Needless to say, everyone is now researching what exactly is going on here.
