Aha! That's sounds a good idea. Why didn't I think of it! Will give it a go as soon as email is finished and let you know whether it worked!

Thanks tons!

Hi Carol

One method you could try is to go into the device
manager and uninstall the CD / DVD roms from the list,
reboot the computer and see whether windows has detected
your new drives.
To do this go to your desktop, select the my computer
icon, press the applications key and cursor down to
manage.
When the computer management window opens, cursor down to
device manager. Hit TAB and cursor down to DVD / CD rom
drives.
Hit the right cursor key to expand the entries, select
the CD device and then use the applications key to select
uninstall.
Do the same to uninstall the DVD rom drive and then alt
f4 to close the window.

Reboot your computer and hopefully you should see the
correct drives in device manager this time.

Hope this helps.

Darren.

Subject: [access-uk] HELP WITH NEWLY INSTALLED CD DRIVES

Hi all,

I have a bit of a problem with two installed (but not
new) CD drives. My CD and DVD drives both went in this
computer and a friend had some used ones which still
worked. He installed them for me but I notice that they
both still show up as the same named drives I used to
have. The problem now is that they will both play on
the computer but the CDRW drive will not write using
CDEX for ripping CD's.
Nobody seems sure what these drives are and I'm
wondering how I can find out. I was hoping that, maybe,
Belarc Adviser would tell me, but of course, it's
picking up the information already in my computer for
the named drives; so I still haven't been able to find
out.
Does anyone have suggestions as to how I may at least
solve the problem so that I can once again use this
computer to copy my music!
