It's quite likely to be one of those totally stupid design
copyright issues.  In short, if others were to do it,
Sennheiser would claim it's an infringement of their design.
Some idiot in their legal department might even be stupid
enough to claim it's copyright.

I@ve been using various models of Sennheiser headphones for
about twenty-five years.  One thing that's always impressed
me is that they but a vertical line of 3 dots on one side of
the head band to represent the Braille letter L.  This means
that you can correctly orientated the cans.  This must be a
very simple thing to do and I wonder why more manufacturers
don't do it.
