I now use an optical cable from my PC to the amplifier and all work well. I
just wish Sky would allow use of viewing cards on PCs so I can receive my Sky
through the PC. At the moment I’m using Freesat on the PC due to the great
accessibility of Media Centre.

Peter,

I found the same using the hdmi out from a pc into an audio visual system
amplifier.

What happened is the pc sees the external hdmi amplifier and assigns it as the
sound card. By the time the amplifier has realised a signal is there and
turned itself on, the speech signal has already gone.

I found Hal couldn't be used in the system this way as anything short that was
spoken wasn't long enough to trigger the amp and was hence not heard.

Incredibly annoying as the pc i built specially to fit into the av system for
playing music and dvd, and it meant I couldn't use it in the way i intended to
do.

I find that the audio from HDMI doesn’t kick in for a second or two i.e. the
audio goes off as soon as sound stops. It then doesn’t kick in until a second
or so after the computer starts producing sound. It almost makes using JAWS
impossible so I don’t use it. It probably depends on the HDMI version, sound
card etc.

Hi Darran,

Many TV's have 2 HDMI slots so make sure you're plugged into the correct one
and that the TV is tuned to the same channel.
If you're plugged into HDMI1, the TV should be set to HDMI1 as well.
If you have a Scart plug attached, it would be worthwhile unplugging it until
you get yourself setup.

Tom.

  Hi List.

I'm endeavouring to set up a link between laptop and telly using an HDMI
cable, but the audio is still coming through the laptop speakers.

We were asked plenty of resolution questions while setting this up, but
nothing about audio, and therefore assumed that it would automatically carry to
the TV as well.

Can anyone advise where I could have gone wrong here?

Off now to try Google, but I'm hoping a straight-forward answer will come my
way from the list!

  Thanks all.

  Darran
