Google Groups are good as well. I have been on a number and you are right.

Please please please please please don't go to Yahoo Groups! That's
like going out of the frying pan into the fire!

I'm on about 20 Google Groups mailing lists and run 3 and have never
had a problem. Plus joining, leaving, moderation and banning controls
are excellent.
And group import is very easy too.

So, if you really have to move, please consider Google Groups.
