Hi Peter,
Are you sure the media volume isn't at 0?
Go into Settings and Sounds and check the media volume. I ask this because
in 9 and above, the accessibility volume is separate from that of the media
volume, and assistant talks through the media volume.

Subject: [access-uk] Google assistant in Android 9 help please
I have been using the assistant to give commands with no problems. I would
say "ring ." and an appropriate auditory response would issue and the
instruction be carried out. I have made no intentional changes but now
saying OK Google" only brings up the assistant screen with no verbal
confirmation. I then have to explore the screen to find the right button in
order to proceed. How do I correct this please to get things back to
"normal"?
