Hi again Colin.

I've just checked and I'm running a licenced version titled version 6.27.

So I'm above your minimal standard referring to version 5.70, so that's good.

Secondly. Thank you for giving me all of your own choice of settings , in terms of Playing a file.

I'm just about to open my GW and mimic your settings, in terms of playing a file, at the moment.

I've never bothered with F2, F3 or F4, I've normally tried to stick to the initial bog standard F4 for playing, and this may well be the reason why I cannot really follow you and other members instructions.

So I'm just going to change my settings, regarding playing a file, to what you have chosen.

After that I'm going to have another go at cutting out bits of audio from this file.

I nearly managed it today and realised that after pressing the Control x key, I need then to open it all up again with Control A, followed with F4.

Hahaha.  I'm sure it used to be much easier than this, ha!.

Thanks again for your input and I'll try again later to post to your list.

Very best wishes.

Andy.
From Scotland with Love.

andy,

First, what is your play3 set at? I assume you are at least using GW V5.70
or maybe V6.whatever it is now.

If earlier than V5.70, can't help as memory not accurate.

What you need do is ensure your play selection is set correctly, for which
you need go into the control properties (f11) the play tab is first.

I have mine set as follows:

Play1 (f2) all.

Play2 (f3) selection.

Play3 (f4) view.

All - plays complete file from start.

Selection - plays what is between start/finish markers.

View - plays what is on the screen.

On opening the file these play complete file.

Play3 (f4) depends how you have your zoom set, usually, I only show one
second's worth of the sound wave, can change as necessary with the zoom
commands.

Therefore, play your file (using the wind forward/back and other play
features as necessary, press f7 as at present, place your start marker,
position by moving the marker back/forward with the marker commands as
necessary.  Play on and stop with f7, place finish marker, moving with
finish marker commands back/forward as necessary.  You can then check by
pressing f4 which plays what is between the markers.

andy, do you have your scrub set up?  I finds this invaluable.  You can do
this by going into the play tab (f11) and tabbing past the settings for wind
forward/back, you then find an edit box which, by default, is set to 0.000.
I have a value in there of 0.150, which means whenever I move a marker, I
hear .15 of a second sound, speeds up editting no end.  There is a nack to
it's use, be aware you will hear sound whenever moving markers or cursors,
the amount you hear when moving the cursor is dependent on your zoom
setting.

Hope this helps.
