I'll cover NVDA object navigation in Revo Uninstaller below, but first I have to say that my success with updating Skype was temporary. Using Revo to uninstall 6.10 did enable the latest Skype client to be installed and then run successfully but, after a reboot, I'm getting the same problem.

Although I definitely have the latest version on my system, the initial sign-in window believes I have the outdated version and immediately signs me out, inviting me to download and install the latest version. OK, there's probably something in the registry which hasn't been removed which is telling Skype falsely that it is out of date but Revo was supposed to have removed all trace of Skype from the registry - I set it to delete absolutely verything, all two and a half thousand items. The result is that I can't use Skype on my system until I find out why Skype thinks it is out of date.

Now for navigating in Revo. This is where vMouse will come in useful. Display the vMouse menu and choose the Navigation keys mode. With Revo open, do the following:

1. Press shift F5 twice to move the navigator object up the object tree.

2. Press F7 until you hear NVDA say 'Toolbar'.

3. Step into the toolbar by pressing shift F7. This puts the navigator object on the first control inside the toolbar.

4. Press F8 to turn on Mouse Tracks Objects mode. NVDA won't announce the View button in its own mode. Press F7 until you land on the View control.

5. Press control F6 to activate the View button. There's no menu and no audible confirmation but you should find that the application items are now listed in list view instead of in an icon grid.

6. Return to 'Function keys' mode by selecting it in the vMouse menu. This returns the function keys to their normal use.

Hope this helps.

Paul

Hi Kevnin,

No you have to do it by clicking the object in NVDA, because Revo is a pile
of crap where accessibility is concerned.

All the best

Revo will show all programs that are also listed in windows' native

Make sure you put revo in detail and not icon view.

Interesting enough I am not happy with revo, the reason is because
it doesn't seem to show all the programs that are installed on my
computer.

I have 114 programs and it only shows something like 90! when I go
into programs and features all show up and they can be uninstalled ideas?

Glad to report that Revouninstall (freeware version) worked and that I
now have the latest version of Skype working on my system.

I was aware that the main Skype client was accessible using NVDA as I do
but I persisted in using GW Connect out of habit I suppose. It's always
better when the mainstream apps are fully accessible since they tend to
provide more features than the ghetto versions.

Thanks to all who helped.

Hi Paul,

No, never seen this to be honest. I retired GWC last week and am using
Skype with the Window-Eyes Skype Enhanced app with no problems.

All the best

Subject: [access-uk] GW Connect and updating Skype client

Having heard that GW Connect is to be permanently 'disconnected' and
killed off on account of Microsoft dropping the Skype API, I thought it
was about time to revert to the usual Skype application.

The version of Skype I have on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit machine
is 6.10. When I ran it, a message popped up, saying that this version
could no longer run and I needed to get the latest version of Skype. A
few steps later, I was running the Skype installer.

Then I got a message saying that the updating had been aborted since my
previous version could not be removed. That was that. After a reboot,
I tried to uninstall my existing version of Skype using Control Panel.
A Windows error message reported that something or other did not match
the stuff on my system. Hitting the Browse button in this message box
showed that the uninstall program was looking for a file called
skype.msi. A search for this file using the Start menu yielded no
results.

This now means that my existing Skype 6.10 will not run, it cannot be
uninstalled and the new version cannot be installed since it requires
the old one to go away. Has anyone else experienced this?

Note that I uninstalled GW Connect before attempting the Skype update.
I hope that uninstalling GWC did not remove the required information...
