Derek, yes it has been done, and I'm sure I've heard a podcast about it either on BlindCoolTech or Blind Access Journal. The name Street-Talk comes to mind, though I don't know whether that's just software owr something more.

Subject: [access-uk] GPS receiver query

Hi All
Is it possible to use GPS receiver with a pacmate in Braille mode?
I was thinking this set-up could be useful for some Deafblind people.
For example when on a train and want to check which station have we stopped
at now!
Regards,
Derek
