Hi Steve.

I've found Blindsquare very accurate. I use Blindsquare on my daily commute, a 2 hours 2 bus journey out of the sticks through Wolverhampton and out into the sticks the other side.

I have various landmarks set up as points of interest and I get them reported back accurately every time.

I've also set a point of interest inside Wolverhampton bus station at the stand that I most often use and I get the proximity and the arrived chimes accurately every time which is just as well as I am still chasing the station about their bus stand announcements which have been working on only 3 of the 20 stands for the past 14 months.

Regards.

Kevin

Hi Pete,

I wondered about that myself. Although I don't use BlindSquare, I know it can give points of interest, not that I think it's very accurate, because it uses OSM, Open Street Maps and FourSquare data, which is inherently unreliable, but it works.

All the best

Steve

hi charlie,

i'm not sure why you think blindsquare needs apple or google maps to get points of interest because they don't use these for that information.
blindsquare uses 4square and open sorce infomation for telling you what is around you.
both when just walking along or when following a route blind square will tell you the points of interest that are withing the radius you have set on the home screen.
by going into the filter settings you can tell it which catagories you want announced and which ones you don't want to be told about.
if for example why walking you wanted to find somewhere to eat you could tap on the food catagory on the home screen and it would bring you up a list of all the places to eat within your set radius and tell you which direction they are and you could pick one of them to be guided there.
if you go into tools from the home screen you could tap on around me and it will tell you all the things around you within your set radius and which direction they are, likewise in the tools section you could tap on look around and then it will only tell you about the things in the direction you are pointing the top of the phone towards.
so as you can tell blindsquare deffinately can and does tell you what is around you according to the options you have chosen no matter if your just walking or following a route by foot or in a vehicle.
i note you said a list of points of interest and it doesn't give you a list of the ones on the route you are following in advance but it will announce them to you when they come within the radius you have set.
and if you wanted to know what points of interest are near a particular place for example your destination you could tell blindsquare to simulate that place and then look around at what is nearby using the same methods mentioned above.
blindsquare automatic announcement facility is really good and i think if you play around with the varios settings you will be able to fine tune it to work well for you.
i often use blindsquare when travelling by vehicle whilst following a route and it automatically tells me about the points of interest as they come in range which is very handy as i often learn of things that i didn't know were there.

pete.
