Actually, this is incorrect. Lazarillo can do that.
Google Maps certainly provides POI lists.
Also Nearby Explorer Online will do that.
All the best

Hi Pete
I ended up downloading BlindSquare and several other apps that were mentioned
on this list. Unfortunately, none of them is able to give me a list of POIs
coming up on my route since they depend on aaple or google maps which do not
provide this capability. What if I were to buy a standalone GPS device, are any
of them accessible?
Charlie

hi Charlie,
blindsquare can do any kind of guidance as if you plan a route it can use
several different map programs like apple maps, google maps, tom tom and
navigon for example to plan the route and you can select within them how you
are travelling ie, by car, cycle, walking, or public transport.
it only uses these other map apps if you are planning a route if you are just
travelling without being guided via a route it can tell you about what is
around you and guide you to a point of interest by tracking the place and
narrow you in to that place by using clock face instructions until you get
there.
i'm not aware of any trial period being available with blindsquare and as i
already have it on my Iphone i can't see what the price is at the moment but i
can tell you they sometimes have it on offer for a reduced price normally at
various holiday times like thanks giving and christmas and i think sometimes
while the exhibitions are on.
pete.
