Hi,
I Gboard settings, you can also make the keyboard smaller, or less tall, as
they put it.
You can also remove the number row at the top if you want.
There are a lot of settings to monkey with if you have a mind.

I wouldn't say I am a constant swiper, I would say that I use a combination,
depending on what I'm doing and/or how familiar I am with an app. If
anything I use explore by touch in the apps I use regularly. I was just
stating that either method of swiping to the rite or hitting the send button
by finding it don't work now without closing the keyboard first. I don't
necessarily state that swiping in that example is my preferred method, I was
just explaining that both options seem to achieve the task faster till this
change got implemented. If you read my message in fact I say how I know
where the send button is, so this is my point, till recently I could hit the
send button even when the keyboard is active, but now I first have to close
the keyboard before I do that, it's an extra step. You can't use explore by
touch till you close the keyboard because it appears that keyboard takes up
pretty much whole of the screen, or at least that's what it seems to me.
Yes, I can' see why this is a good thing for beginners, but again, I wish we
had a choice. Yes, this is also true that we can change this setting in
what'sapp, but it's other apps as well.

I'm not at all annoyed by it, but the difference is, I believe your primary
method of access is to swipe. Mine is to explore the screen. It's a bit
like reading Braille. In other words, I know where the send button is to
within about a quarter of an inch in WhatsApp, so I just go to it and tap
it.
I think if you are a beginning swiper, which I know you're not, then keeping
the keyboard in focus, makes sense.
By the way, why not change a setting in WhatsApp so that a press of the
enter key will press the send button?
What were we saying about customisation?

Am I the only one slightly annoyed with the way now Gboard interacts with
talkback? Let me attempt to explain, till recently we were able to interact
with other - non keyboard parts of screen without closing the keyboard. I
will use what'sapp as an example, but it could be applied to any app. If you
were in a message edit box, finished writing a message you could either:
1. Tap the send button in the rite hand corner just above the keyboard
or
2. . Swipe once to the rite, would be focused on the send button and
the message would be sent.
Now in order to do anything one has to hit the back button to close the
keyboard first in order to interact with elements on the page. I wish that
we would have a choice in which we want the keyboard to interact with
talkback. One of the things I love about Android is ability to customize it.
Lately Google seems to be behaving more like apple :) first we had issue
where the very high verbosity was forced upon us, granted they finally gave
in under the pressure and changed that, but now we have this keyboard issue.
I realize this is not a major issue, but I personally with these things were
not happening.
P.s I realize that I could potentially use single tap mode but I don't want
that, I just wish the keyboard would behave like couple of weeks ago or
whenever this thing changed.
