I do suspect that there is a sort of monopoly with these companies, with
them all working to similar profits. None of them would slash their price
as it would be a temporary gain on the others and, in no time, all of them
would be losing out on the honey pot.-----

I would prefer a product with less bells and whistles at a cheaper price.
There's a lot in the version of Jaws I have that I will never use, but I do
want it to work with the versions of Windows, etc, that I have. Less crap
and just concentrate on compatibility - Would that cut down the price?

The thing is, Jaws want to justify their ludicrous price by offering more
than the competition, thus bells and whistles. With these new free and
cheap app's, I fear that they're going to push these bells and whistles even
more rather than drop the price.

cheers

Barry

I don't wholly agree Barry, the prices are being kept artificially high
because of a lack of compettitiveness by the funding sources that supply the
funds to purchase such products. I don't believe that 25% couldn't be shaved
off the topline of these products, it is just that under the current system
it isn't in their best interests to do so. So instead they continue to
produce upgrades and new versions with very little added value for the end
user and yet still demand more from the people that pay the invoices.
