just received the below, and if this is true that MS can take off the
programs you want to use, I would say another good reason to avoid win10.

Windows 7 is an effective program and if I were you I would stick with
it. About 2 years ago I changed from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and have
regretted it ever since. Windows 10 is also a very good program, but
Microsoft insist on making changes every week, apparently to persuade
users to change to programs which they can control and which will help
their cash income from downloads. They even deleted Windows Media
player from my computer in favour of Groove Music, and on 2 occasions
they deleted Daniel, a paid for voice which I use on my NVDA screen
reader. But most frustratingly they also changed the drop down Start
menu into a ribbon which I eventually found, but every few weeks they
delete the “Most Used Apps” part of the start menu so I have 2 and arrow
into the desktop to open my most used programs. I did manage to turn
off Windows ten Updates but this now seems to have been overridden.
I, and most blind NFBUK members use Word 2003 which still uses drop
down menus, but I have a similar program with drop down menus in case
Microsoft decide to delete Word from my computer.
If Microsoft have said they are going to discontinue support for Windows
7 this is good news because your program will continue to run and they
will not make any changes, although you will of course need to keep your
anti-virus program running as you do now. Windows XP is also still
being used by many blind people, and if you backup your program as well
as your data then your existing program should remain safe.

not only do I not really want windows 10, as I have just heard so many
stories of access issues with it, especially when it comes to those
pesky ribbon menus, but as my current screenreader is window-eyes, that
seemingly won't work with it as well.
win10 rout, I wondered if there is any sort of android desktop machine?
as at least having used that on my samsung phone, if there is, I thought
that may be a better rout to go.
if that's not possible, another option that I am considering, is
something like chrome os, again, if I can find that on a desktop
machine, so am wondering if anyone has had any experience of this with
it's screenreader, and range of apps?
as I have heard a few good things about this, but don't really know that
much about it.
