I am posting this message again from Phil as he too was very helpful on message rules. Hope you don't mind Phil as some people were asking for the information. I would say to people who like myself are just learning about the message rules, to take great care on following the instructions and do not try short-cuts of your own or it will not work. You must follow it systematically, even down to the OK buttons.

Hi again Eleanor,

In Outlook express using Jaws I do the following:

1. Alt+t for the tools menu.

2. r for message rules.

3. m for mail.

4. You should now be on a list of rules where one of the items must be checked. Cursor up or down the list to select the item you wish to amend. In Supernova you may need to check that the focus is being placed on the required item and that the checkbox for it is set.

5. Alt+m to modify the selected rule.

6. Alt+n to navigate to the edit field containing the name of the rule.

7. Edit the name as required.

8. Tab once and press enter on the ok button.

9. You should now find that the name of your rule has changed in the list of rules but you should still tab until you reach the ok button and press enter to close the dialogue.

The keystrokes I have used above are Outlook express shortcuts and are, therefore, not specific to Jaws. Alternatively, of course, you can always tab to each of the items.

I hope this helps.

Thank you, it is not quite like that in Outlook Express. However, I feel I am following the right things but it is not working for me.

 Hi Eleanor,

I don't know which E-mail client you are using but if it helps at all, in Outlook 2003 I can select the rule I wish to change and choose to modify the rule. When I land on the item to edit the rule, cursoring down once places me on an item called something like rename rule. Clicking on this gives me a field where I can change the name. After clicking the ok button the rule name is changed.

 HTH,

Just to add to my last post on changing the name in message rules, I am clicking on Modify with the rule I want to change the name, so that is not the problem either. Then I am going to the 4th option which is the Name of the Rule, putting in or should I say deleting that bit which says new message rule #2 and leaving the name access-uk and like I say when I go back and check it has been done correctly it has not changed.

 Eleanor
