Peter, I also have a Focus Blue 40, and while it is not my main display, it has
not given me an ounce of trouble thus far.
Kind regards,

Peter, experience with the Focus 14 has been anecdotally mixed. I acquired one
privately some time ago and have had good reliable service from it. But other
listers, one in particular have reported having to have units replaced several
times over due to malfunctions.

Thank you for your comments. I was thinking about the elle-braille and so the
focus blue range.

Hi Peter
As David says, it depends on the Braille display manufacturer. And like David,
I have an Alva BC680 which has also been well looked after, but which has been
disappointingly unreliable over the years.
Equally, Hims Braille displays aren’t that robust either.
I am looking to replenish my own display at some point, and am contemplating
the Brailliant BI series. HandyTech, or HelpTech is the company is now known,
also have lovely displays, but the cost just isn’t warranted, and support by
Visionaid is frankly shocking. I feel HumanWare would offer me good support
with their Brailliant Bi series which can’t be said for the others.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Subject: [access-uk] Maintenance costs for braille displays
I am thinking about buying a braille display privately. I have checked with
Sight & Sound regarding repair costs but this does not answer the question as
to how often braille display needs servicing or repair. For example replacing a
cell was over £100.
Would anybody like to share their experiences please.
Peter
