Hi Jackie,

My wife has data download disabled, so not to incur extra costs. Therefore it
works just like the Ipod.

I still use my N91, which, until it gives up, I will continue to do and when it
does, it will be an I phone for me.

As for a tactile keypad, I have used the voice commands for phoning contacts on
the I phone, which worked satisfactorily.

I think Apple products are great, as they are all accessible, straight out of
the box.

I prefer Apples to Bananas!

Cheers

Dave

Hi Dave

Yes, true, but it's a lot of dosh upfront for an iPhone on a Pay-As-You-Go
basis, and it would eat your credit if you were downloading or streaming away
from the home where you could use your broadband connection.

iPad? Haven't seen it yet, so can't comment. I still think that if you were
outside with cold hands or in the rain and needed to make a call, you would
prefer tactile buttons on a Nokia than you might with a touch screen iPhone,
but it's each to their own. Whatever though, we are getting a lot more out of
whatever Apple product we go for than we would if we didn't give it a go in
some form or other. And if it means we don't have to keep paying through the
nose to access tech vendors for expensive upgrades, I'm up for that alternative!

Jackie,

My wife bought her I phone, and has an O2, pay as you go SIM in it, you don't
need to have a contract, to have an I phone.

Also don't forget the GPS.

I'd go for the phone, it does everything the Ipod touch does, plus phone and
GPS.

If not bothered about the phone and GPS, I'd get the I pad, especially if have
some sight left.

Cheers

Dave

Hi Carol

Firstly, as regards the iPod Touch versus the iPhone, you need to decide
whether you want the phone portion, and whether you could manage texting in a
different way on a touch screen. I decided that as I have invested so much in
good handsets and Talks upgrades, going down the iPhone route wasn't for me.
Also, I don't want an expensive contract. I'm on an O2 Simplicity now for £15
per month. This gives me 600 minutes, unlimited text messages, and free O2 to
O2 calls. It's a Sim only contract for 12 months, and I like it. I think you
would just need to check if you go for an iPhone what tariff your network would
offer in terms of Internet download as it would be easy to stream happily for
hours and then have a nasty bill at the end of it?

I'm actually wondering whether I could use Joikuspot on my Nokia handset if I'm
out and want to have a quick browse on my iPod Touch. I can't imagine why this
wouldn't work for all the times I would be doing it, but may give it a go some
day.

Regarding your Bose speaker system, I've got the Bose Companion speaker system
on one of my laptops. But I can plug it into the iPod Touch and it's very good
which is what I'm currently doing while listening to Tune In Radio and Five
Live Sports Extra's coverage of the tennis.

Incidentally, one further app I downloaded from that terribly addictive store
yesterday, again for 59p, was called Quick News UK. It gives you some websites
like the BBC, Google News, Yahoo News, and some of the more popular newspapers
like the Telegraph, Guardian, Times, Sun, Mirror and Reuters is there too. If
you go into any of these, you can go through the links of news or sports
categories, for example, that you want to read. It cuts out a lot of the
advertising from what I've seen, and is tailored for the iPod/iPhone/iPad
families.

Again, this is perfectly accessible with VoiceOver. Obviously, you would need
to go online and therefore have your hotspots available outwith your broadband
connection to get the latest, but it's brill.

One other tiny thing to mention is that the British Birds app I purchased a
couple of days ago had a free update where more birds and info had been added.
If you get an update to one of your apps, it tells you, and you just put in
your details and let it update for you.

Hope the temptation of all this is of help Carol! (big smile).

Jackie,

I'm getting more and more hooked. Just can't quite decide whether to go for
phone or the Ipod Touch. Strangely enough, we are also looking at Bose systems
right now and I'm thinking of Bose speakers for my computer system which is
away from the main stereo.

Anyway, I now fully understand the difference between these two so shall be
looking, though am disappointed as we don't have an Apple store very near at
all.
