Its basically because you haven't been there for a while. After so long, they remove your details from their database,

You may have a point but from all the different questions I see on list I didn't think it was out of place. Also they probably don't work Sundays, you have to wait to get a new account verrified and I thought plenty of people who know more about FTP than I do would be on list. Oh and I did read the help!

I registered for FTP what seems like agers back and only used it a
couple of times, not for a long while.  Today I tried to login but
couldn't and my E-mail address, which I am totally positive is the
right one, isn't recognised.  Have they implemented an expiry policy,
maybe if you don't login once every 8 months or so?
