the hotkeys you always used or try hitting the alt_key . There should be an
option - or maybe a plugin also- to unhide the menu but this does not make a
difference for blind users.

If you like reviewing the status bar as you did in firefox 3.x and earlier,
there is a plugin for ff4 and higher that reenables the statbus bar. this is
called "status4ever" and a google search should turn it up easily.

I have used firefox 5.x and even the ff6 beta successfully but reverted to
firerfox 3.6.x not because of accessibility issues but because of
sluggishness and memory leaks with ff 5 and higher.
