Hi Kevin -

Thanks for the syncing info.

Regarding backing up the Itunes library...I already have much more music than
my 64GB Touch will hold, on this laptop, and have selected about 55 gigs of it
for the Itunes library, all that works fine. What I'm unclear about at the
moment, is this back up business in case of an Itunes failure of some kind.

Barbara suggested checking the box under the advanced tab to put a copy of the
library's files in to the Itunes folder. I don't want to put a physical copy in
to yet another folder on my HD, I just want a kind of playlist in that folder,
that will point to where the music tracks are on the HD. Does this make sense?

I've already got all my music backed up to an external drive, but my concern is
that the Itunes library only contains some of it, hand picked, and I want to
avoid having to hand pick it all again, if Itunes crashes or something. -

Andy

  Hi Andy.

With regards to syncing, I think it took a couple of hours to sync my Touch
for the first time with around 57GB of music. I'm using JAWS 11 and ITunes 10
and the feedback during syncing is pretty good. Firstly, your Touch will make
a whistling kind of sound and it will announce that sync is in progress. If
you have Itunes set to start when your Touch is connected, it'll do just that
and tabbing around in ITunes will announce the sync progress. When the sync is
complete, the Touch will announce it and tabbing around in Itunes will now
announce that the sync is complete and that it is ok to disconnect the Touch.

Not quite sure about your backup question. I keep a copy of my ITunes music
library on an external hard drive in the event that I have a hard drive crash.
Any tags you change through ITunes will have updated the music file so that
will be saved if you backup regularly. In the event of a problem, I'd copy my
music back into the Itunes folder and then add the folder to the ITunes library
which is very straightforward and doesn't take very long to do at all.

  Regards.

    Hi Kevin -

I had tried that, but was doing it in the wrong window, and was just
getting album size, I discovered I needed to be in the Source window for it to
work, so thanks for the reminder. While I'm here, Can I try you with a couple
of other questions?

I'm a bit concerned what might happen to my library if I need to reinstall
Itunes for any reason, having created much of it's content manually, I'd hate
to have to do it again.

Do you think if I created a playlist for the whole library and saved it, I
could then keep a copy of that playlist on my hard drive as back-up?

I've not explored all aspects of Itunes yet, so not certain what can be
achieved, what I really want is something like an m3u file that programmes like
Winamp recognise as playlists, that I can keep, just in case...

The other thing is about syncing an iPod Touch for the first time [waiting
for mine to arrive] does it take long for say something like 50gb to make it on
to the iPod? And when I connect, does a message pop up on the Touch asking if I
want to sync with the Itunes programme?

    Thanks for any help -

    Andy

      Hi Andy.

If you're using JAWS, simply use the insert + page down keystroke to read
the status line at the bottom of the screen which will tell you the number of
tracks, playing time and size in GB.

      Regards.

        Hi all -

I'm trying to create my library for Itunes, and want to limit it to a
certain GB capacity. I got loads of music in there, but can't see how to find
out what the total GB is. Any help? -
