you don't actually need a key anyhow, just locate an attendant and they will
open the accessible toilet for you without question

Thing is, everybody qualifies for a RADAR key on the grounds of non-discrimination. The public can buy them from places such as tourist kiosks -

Hi Janet.

I guess its because a key is the simplest form of unlocking device. After all, you could make the same argument about house keys and even window locks, heck the window locks in our bungalow have these tiny keys which always seem to go missing and which never seem to work or which jam the locks etc. I could argue on that basis for electronically controlled front door and window locking mechanisms, but then I'd have to carry around a fob or something to use to unlock them, plus what if the thing runs out of batteries? Also, the reason for the huge key design is so that people who have dexterity problems can twist the keys. A lot of people seem to forget that blindness is not the only disability people have, and RADAR gives these keys out to everyone who qualifies.

All the best, Ibrahim.

in this technology driven age, why are RADAR still insisting on the carrying
on our persons of a whopping great lump of ironmongery? surely they could
have developed the technology for an ap that unlocks these toilets without.

A call to all iPhone users - can you help Radar test their new iPhone app?

Radar - the Royal Association for Disability Rights would really appreciate your help to test our new National Key Scheme (NKS) iPhone app. The app has been developed so that when disabled people, their families and friends are out and about with their Key and Guide they can be confident that they can
locate, unlock and access one of the almost 9,000 accessible toilet
facilities in the UK.

The Radar NKS key offers disabled people independent access to almost 9,000
locked public toilets in the country. The National Key Scheme provides
toilets for disabled people that are fitted with Radar locks to keep the
facilities in good condition. Over 25 years the Scheme has been adopted by
400+ local authorities and many transport, retail and leisure providers.

If you would like to assist Radar please email Nathan Jelf-Mannion at
Nathan.jelf-mannion@xxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:Nathan.jelf-mannion@xxxxxxxxxxxx> or call 020 7566 0115 for more information. Unfortunately we are not able
to pay you for your time, but any help you give us would be greatly
appreciated.

Regards,

Becci Fennings
